Skirt transforms woman into soda machine

While this isn’t really a gadget… it’s got some interesting ingenuity, and it’s just too weird of a story for me to pass up!

Aya Tsukioka, a 29 year old fashion designer from Tokyo has devised an interesting way for Japanese woman to stay safe.  Rather than use typical methods of self defense, such as pepper spray, stun guns, and high decible alarms, Ms. Tsukioka opted for a traditional ninja tactic of disappearing in plain sight.

By pulling up a flap in the front, then raising  your arms, you can turn into a soda machine.  Yes, you read that right…. a soda machine.

Remember playing the game “hot potato” as a kid?  It was fun for a while, but since the potato wasn’t actually hot… it just sort of seemed silly after a while.   ThinkGeek.com has the perfect solution:  a ball that gives you an electric shock!  Check out the video after the jump!

koleniniaAre you sick of trying to ride your bicycle through the city and never being able to get anywhere because of the traffic? Then Kolelinia may be just the thing for you… if you don’t mind heights… and being suspended above traffic.

Kolelinia is basically a high-wire for bikes, suspended over traffic, so you can ride freely above the streets. Your tires will sit in a half-tube channel that (hopfeully) keeps your wheels from falling off the track. There is also a guide cable that is at handlebar height. A tethering device connects your handlebars to the guide wire to keep you upright. Read the rest of this entry »

hello-kitty-pianoConsidering it’s minute stature (3.6kg and 18cm tall X 25cm wide), I suppose a better name would be “Hello Kitty Baby Baby Grand Piano.”

While it is possible to play by hand, managing to accurately finger those 0.4cm keys might prove to be a challenge. Fortunately, it comes with 100 preloaded classical, jazz and pop songs, and with an SD card slot, I’m assuming you can play your own music as well.

Check out the video of it in action after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »

The 10 Most Memorable Gadgets in Asia in 2008

2008 has almost drawn to a close and its time for the world as a collective whole to draw breath gather its thoughts and throw out those lists of changes in the year that made people sit up and take notice.

While the first half of the year could have been called a Mac(intosh) attack (first there was the Macbook Air, then the 3G iPhone) and the second half of the year was the approaching ecopocalypse there was still other news and gadgets out there that caught people’s attention.

Here’s what we thought were the memorable gadgets to come out of Asia for 2008…

Asus Eee Netbooks

It could be their size, their price or the fact that, for a while, the makers of Eee laptop line put the Linux operating system on their laptops above windows and OSX but you didn’t have far to come accross a release about this Taiwanese company this year.

The latest entry onto the market were two models which made everything thinner and added a 3G modem in the November release of the Eee PC S101, Eee PC 1002H captured almost as much attention as the start of the year.

Much of the buzz around the HTC G1 surrounded the Google Android operating

7 Travel Gadgets to Enhance Your Vacation!

Your much awaited travel plans will be greatly enhanced if you are well equipped with the appropriate travel gadgets. I have compiled a list of some gadgets that are sure to fill the down time and enhance the wow time!

1. iPods; Bringing an iPod loaded up with a variety of your favorite music can add a personal touch to an unfamiliar territory. It can be comforting and this comfort extends to helping an individual relax at night. Many people have slight to moderate difficulty sleeping in strange places. Also, iPod speakers are very small, portable and wireless and can allow you to play your music in your room, at the beach or by the pool, etc. An iPod arm band is another stylish accessory that will prove useful.

2. An Electronics Hammock; This gadget compliments any of your small gadgets that need charging. This Hammock is positioned right below an outlet by fastening to the plug itself and holds your electronic product to ensure that it does not dangle precariously or lay on the ground at risk of getting wet or stepped on.

3. Indestructible Travel Cases; Keeping your electronic gadgets with you at all times and also keeping them safe and dry

keystone_eco_tag_solar_chargerWith the rapidly expanding market for portable devices, many companies are searching for new ways to tap into the extremely lucrative market.  At this point, for a company to attempt to jump into the cell phone or mp3 player market, you’d either have to be crazy, or have insane amounts of funding.  Or possibly both.

This leaves many companies working their way into the portable device accessories market, making everything from decorative cases to chargers, which is what Keystone decided to go with.  The new Eco Tag solar charger is a luggage tag with built in solar panels that can charge your portable devices while you travel. While it may sound great in theory… I see one major problem… luggage generally doesn’t see much sunlight.  I think back to my last trip abroad, and the location of my luggage during each step of the way, and at most my luggage sat in the sun for maybe 10 minutes throughout the whole trip.

I can’t imagine that 10 minutes of solar charging is going to power anything for very much time.  The Keystone Eco Tag solar charge is expected to ship in February 2010 for $35.  I expect no one to buy it.
